Congestion Charge - It's up to you

9.05.17pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 2nd Aug 2008

Leaders of the 10 local councils in Greater Manchester have agreed that a public referendum should take place on the congestion charging proposals. The results will be broken down on a borough by borough basis and only if people in seven out of the 10 Greater Manchester authorities vote yes will congestion charges be imposed.

So, it's now up to you, the people who travel around Manchester every day. If congestion charging is approved Manchester will see a huge investment in public transport infrastructure, including new tram services through Droylsden to Ashton. Tameside MBC are supporters of the plan but now it is up to the residents of the borough to have their say. A public consultation on the proposals is currently taking place with your thoughts wanted by 10 October. The referendum is scheduled to take place in December. Make sure you use your vote.
